Is this an oil reproduction or not ?

I have a canvas that seems to a very good reproduction. I cant tell if it is an oil hand painted reproduction or a silk screen or something. Can anyone tell from the photo I have scanned of it ?

It can not be an original oil painting mainly because the textured brushstrokes are flat against the canvas instead of raised. Real brushstrokes have depth. So it is a reproduction.

It is not a silkscreen.

Most reproductions of paintings are simply prints that are printed on canvas to make them look more like an original painting. By printing directly to a canvas instead of on paper you get the 'grainy, pebbled' look of a canvas painting.

But it is a nice copy of a very good painting, one that many people would love to hang in their houses.

Many (but not all) oil paintings have a definite texture - the surface is not smooth. If it has a rough texture it is probably an oil painting.

Yes... it's oil painting reproductions as the original by Edward Potthast is part of The Art Institute of Chicago; Friends of American Art Collection. It looks like a direct print on canvas as there don't appear to be brushstrokes as one might expect in a painting, reproduction or not. It is still a beautiful image

The texture should tell you. It could be a repro using acrylics (or alkyds, similar to oil paint) in which case it's not VERY old, but if it's oil paint, first you should be able to smell linseed oil close up to the canvas. And there will be little cracks in the texture, although that's also possible with acrylics, which have very little flexiblility (a characteristic that true oil paint does have). If a silk-screen, the paint would not be thick, or varying in thickness (impasto), and it isn't apparent if there are brushstrokes? To further complicate the question, oil paintings should be coated with a protective varnish.

What is the different between arcylic painting and oil painting?

  • Mood:
  • Music:
I use oil painting. But never try with acrylic acid. I would like to try to acrylic paint. What is the difference between the two sides? I know that oil is the oil and turpentine smell and really need after a long time to do a good job. Acrylic? Any useful suggestions for beginners to ring me to do art?

Need for speed acrylic oil painting. It dries quickly, because it is water-soluble. You can use it like a watercolor painting, if you dip the brush in water clean-up, and then immersed in a new paint color. This is more oil. I need to wholesale oil paintings, because they are cheaper. You do not have to mess trupentines and all solvents, because they are water-based. Usually very easy to clean up. Palette paint dry, I usually just paint stripping sclerosis, if thick enough to withstand tug.I can also use soap and water really clean the brush. However, soaking the brush in water if necessary, painting. Acts much like watercolor. Can color palette. Oil painting, it dries very quickly. I really like the color of water, although show some surprising effects of acrylic resin.

Oil the basis of a clear oil. Their oil painting and body can be toxic if you are distributed in a bad room. You need all of the solvent, which is Messier and longer droughts. It takes a longer period of time, during the period. You can mix looks very appropriate technology, so I do not know why people would use the oil, but it is slightly more prestige because of the cost factors may be.

I like oil painting with. Easy to clean up acid. You must use paint thinner or mineral spirit. I suggest to buy a heavy body acrylic paint, if you want to thin it is just used water. Acrylic dry as fast as a lot of oil.

I have pictures on both and I like oil, but does a good line of gold paint acrylic paint, they also have a large portfolio and use the things of acrylic resin, you can not find oil painting. I like to clear tar gel, a very viscous liquid, you can use the basic draw liquid line. It formed a way to resist and batik wax. You can play some really cool effects with the surrounding.
